Transition Update #8

A Clergy Transition can be a scary time for some people. There is a period of mourning and sadness to see a beloved priest leave and many questions about what the future will hold for our parish family. Add to that, that during the summer at St. Paul’s familiar faces are missing while they enjoy their vacations, the service of Morning Prayer is different than what most of us are used to, there is no choir or Sunday School, and the pews aren’t as full. This is all a normal part of our church’s life. Summer services at St. Paul’s traditionally are quieter with lower attendance than the rest of the year. And the parish has been through transitions before and grown stronger because of them. So we encourage you to take this time to reflect on the changes, enjoy the slower pace of the summer, and listen to the inspiring thoughts shared by our lay preachers.

In the reading from Hebrews last week, Abraham is asked to have faith as he sets out on a new path leaving all he knows behind him. And in the Gospel reading from Luke, Jesus tells the disciples “do not be afraid”. Tweeter Moran wove these lessons into her message last Sunday to encourage us to celebrate all our gifts at St. Paul’s as we continue our transition journey together. These gifts and our faith will guide us in our planning for the upcoming months. And in time, we will all come to see this as an exciting opportunity to challenge ourselves, to grow, and explore new things.

Transition Questions/Concerns

You are welcome and invited to contact the office with any questions/concerns pertaining to our church and the transition. To ensure you receive the most accurate and up-to-date information, we will connect you with the Wardens and Vestry. They are the members authorized to respond on behalf of the church.

Pastoral Care Needed?

If you have a pastoral care need, please reach out to the parish by phone or e-mail. The messages are checked regularly. In an emergency you may contact one of the Wardens directly. Beth Abrahamson #201-391-4960 or Ann Hirsch #551-404-2396. They will connect you with a priest if needed.

Grocery Gift Cards Update

The ACME on Chestnut Ridge Rd in Woodcliff Lake will be closing on October 2nd. Please note: other locations in the area will still be open. This is a great time to use gift cards to catch some sales. Please contact Jim Rahal or Lisa Johnson to purchase ACME, Shop Rite or Wegmans gift cards. The church earns 5 % from the store through this program. Please suggest any new stores to add.

Ree Hopper’s Book Fundraiser

We have an author among us! Our own Ree Hopper has written a book about the Borough of Montvale which is set to be released just in time to celebrate the town’s 125th Anniversary. There will be a book signing and reception on October 6th at the Montvale Library. Ree has graciously set aside some of the books to be sold as a fundraiser for St. Paul’s at $21.99 each. Please join us in congratulating Ree and to pre-order a copy to enjoy.

Knitters & Crocheters

They will hold their season opener on Tuesday, September 10th at 7 pm at the home of Rita McCarthy, 14 Bayberry Dr. Montvale (201-391-0194). St Paul’s K&C members traditionally knit baby hats and blankets for Preemie & full term babies born at St Joseph’s Children’s Hospital in Paterson. However, newcomers always are welcome to come just to relax for an evening of good conversation and refreshment and can bring their own projects to work on. If you would like to hear more about us, see Janet Tunick or Ann Hirsch.

Dozens of Fresh Eggs

Dear parish family,
As you may or may not know, our family has been raising chicks for a year now and are becoming overwhelmed with eggs.  Our eggs are all natural non-gmo, some brown and some greenish blue. We have a refrigerator behind our garage where we store the eggs for anyone interested in picking up.  Our address is 5 Edgren Way, Montvale.  Please feel free to come by at your convenience and pick up a dozen or more. Come anytime.  It would be helpful if you return the cartons when you are done.  Thanks,
The Piatt Family
